My phone vibrates on cue and I take asip of my beer before checking it.
Are you trying to make me crazy, princess?
Double-checking that neither Kyle normy dad are paying close attention, I look up. Sebastian is on the other side ofthe room, but I can feel the smoldering heat from his stare. His foreheadappears to be creased with tension, and his jaw is set in the way it does whenhe’s livid about something.
Looking away, I type. Why wouldI do that, hotshot? Seeing you crazy terrifies me.
Then why do you insist on making methat way?
I can’t pretend that I’m not annoyed asI reply. I'm not insisting on anything. You were never supposed to seethis. It doesn't count if you weren't supposed to see it, right? Or does thatonly work for you?
Storing my phone in my clutch, I turnmy attention back to Kyle who has just finished paying for our dinner.
"Ready?" He asks.
I smile and place my hand in his."Let's hit it."
He helps me to my feet and places hishand on my lower back as he guides me to the door. My phone vibrates in mypurse, but I choose to ignore it. I'm not going to let Sebastian ruin thisnight for Kyle. Not when I know how much it means to him.
The car pulls to the curb and I climbin, followed by my dad and then Kyle. My phone vibrates again and I slide theclutch onto the seat beside me.
"So how are you feeling?" Iask Kyle. "Nervous, excited?"
"Honestly," he starts."This is the easy part of the evening."
Eyeing him curiously, I ask."Why's that?"
The gleam in his bright blue eyes letsme know he's planning something. Before I can ask what it is, his phone rings. He smiles and holds up a finger. Nodding, I decide to text Geoff to make surethey're on their way.
I pick up my clutch just as my phonevibrates a third time and let out a deep sigh as I slide my finger across thescreen. My dad eyes me curiously and I shake my head.
“Work,” I say.
I know he doesn’t believe me, but hedoesn’t say anything else about it.
My heart races as I read the texts:
Obviously it doesn't work for either ofus, Danielle. This is why we need to talk.
It infuriates me when you ignore me,princess.
I will not let him have you without afight. Just remember that.
I moved to New York for a freshstart. I did not move here to fall for aman like Sebastian.
Sebastian Black came into my lifelike a storm in the peak of the night…dark, raging, all-consuming, andguaranteed to leave destruction in his wake. From the moment our eyes met, hehad a hold on me. I wanted, craved, and needed him like nothing I had everdesired before.
The problem was he needed totalsubmission. From the moment he handed me the contract, I knew what he wasproposing would destroy me. What I had not planned was his ability to make mecrave destruction. I would lose myself in him. Sebastian knew how to take meover the edge, and before I even knew it, I wanted to go freefalling.
It was evident that my past hadthe ability to destroy us. What I had not calculated was the power of his to dothe same. My dark, brooding, impeccably sexual, alpha-male had his own crossesto bear. I was not sure I was strong enough to handle them, or the woman whohelped chain him there.
Kandice is…
…a serial lover of all thingspink, self-proclaimed chocoholic, home-schooling mother, and wannabe yogi.
Her debut erotica novel, Run toYou, the first in the series Run, is coming soon.
Kandi’s love of storytelling canbe traced back to her fourth grade year, when a history lesson on NativeAmericans became too unimaginative for her liking. She took it uponherself to liven things up by creating a story that was based on half-truthsabout a self-named Indian Princess. Kandice is in fact of Native Americanheritage (her great-grandmother was a full-blooded Cherokee) and in her ownmind a princess, so you can see where her inspiration came from. Herstory was a huge hit with friends, and an author was born.
Kandice was born and raised inrural Arkansas, where she currently lives with her husband and three children.Though, if you ask her she’ll confirm that her soul is lost somewhere on thewest coast waiting for the day that her body can rejoin it.
